Ski Whitewater in Nelson BC has sistered with Sandpoint ID,  Schweitzer Mountain Resort.

When booking lodging at Schweitzer’s White Pine Lodge, Selkirk Lodge, or condos, Whitewater’s season pass holders will ski free with a special promo code. Schweitzer’s winter season pass holders will receive 50% off lift tickets at Whitewater, making the adult day ticket price $31.25 CAD.

Ullr has been kind. The Norse snow god smiled favourably upon the Kootenay region this year and Ski Whitewater was among many of the happy recipients of his good nature. To celebrate his greatness and to close out the winter season with a bang, Whitewater will be hosting it’s annual Beach Party on April 3.

Bring your bikini or board shorts and celebrate spring in the Annual Big Splash Slush Cup starting at 1pm. Prior to the Slush Cup, Whitewater is inviting the whole family to the Doggy Parade at 11pm in front of the lodge. Prizes for best costume and for the fastest dog through the obstacle course.

And don’t miss the Dummy Downhill Race at 4:30pm where dummies on skis (be as creative as you like!) ski a run on the Summit side. Check out the Whitewater website for rules and regulations.

Nelson’s local Samba band that will be playing traditional Brazilian rhythms around the resort, helping us shake our way into summer. And the Association de Francophone de Kootenays Ouest (AFKO) will be on site with their delicious all you can eat maple syrup ‘tire’.

Minors do require parental consent.

The scene is going to take place at the base of the mountain in front of the day lodge and everyone is welcome to check it out and cheer on the contestants.

Whether it’s synthesizers or drum circles, its a dress off!  Come dressed to shred as a beloved free lovin’, tree hugging hippie or keep it real in Leon Neon, retro-style this Saturday March 19.

Your style sense will help determine whether next March the mountain is dressed in onesies or tie die’s. It’s a majority rules as to what next years dress code up will be….

Expect prizes for best Hippie and Retro costume and live music playing in the afternoon!  DJ  Terrantino will be in the house spinning retro 80s beats from 2-5pm.

February 25-28, 2011. The 5th Annual Kootenay Coldsmoke Powder Fest is a grass-roots gathering where experienced and debutant backcountry skiers and snowboarders can celebrate the culture of backcountry. Clinics, comps and socials in Nelson, British Columbia, the powder mecca of the Kootenays

While attracting veteran backcountry enthusiasts the week is geared to draw anyone who is keen to learn more about the backcountry and give them the skills to do it.

What do you get when you mix, an all day marshmallow roast, foot stompin’ tunes, snow sculpture contest, x-country ski race and fire works? In a nutshell, you get Whitewater’s 2nd Annual Winter Carnival on Saturday, Jan. 29. And you don’t have to be ski bum or snowboarder to enjoy the day. Families and all members of the community are invited to come up to the lodge, get above that cloud bank and celebrate winter, Whitewater styles.

The day culminates in an Snow Ball Apres Ski Party at 3:30 with a buffet dinner from the world famous Freshtracks Cafe at 5:30, and shuttles back to town at 8:30 pm.
